ALSA Legal Technology and Artificial Intelligence Mediation Competition

Think you’ve got what it takes to facilitate the perfect resolution?

Put your communication, strategy, and problem-solving skills to the test in the 2026 ALSA Legal Technology and Artificial Intelligence Mediation Competition!

Participants may sign up either as a competitor pair (acting as client counsel) or as an individual mediator. Competitor pairs will represent their client’s interests in a simulated mediation, while mediators will take on the role of neutral facilitator, guiding discussions and working to assist parties in reaching a mutually acceptable resolution.

Each round will focus on emerging issues in legal technology and artificial intelligence, such as the integration of AI into legal services, disputes involving technology providers, regulatory and ethical considerations, and the broader implications of automation within the legal profession. Participants will be challenged to engage with these contemporary issues while demonstrating strong communication, strategic thinking, and problem-solving skills in a realistic dispute resolution setting.

There is no cap on the number of teams per university, and participants are welcome to form teams with students from any law school, inter-university teams are strongly encouraged.

The Preliminary Rounds will be held on 14 and 15 March 2026, with successful teams progressing to the Semi-Finals and Grand Final on 22 March 2026. The top two teams will face off in the Grand Final, demonstrating their advocacy, negotiation, and mediation skills before an experienced judging panel of legal academics and practitioners.

Whether you’re a seasoned competitor or new to mediation, this is a unique opportunity to develop essential dispute resolution skills, deepen your understanding of legal issues arising from artificial intelligence and legal technology, expand your professional network, and represent your university on a national stage.
